Value of Design campaign 2024 comes to an end

We have now wrapped up the 2024 phase of our Value of Design campaign, during which we interviewed over 20 people (including A&DS colleagues and senior industry professionals) asking questions such as ‘What is good design?’ and ‘What does the value of design mean to you?’.

In this updated campaign page, we have summarized findings from the responses, highlighting five common themes that show good design…

  • results in happy, vibrant, welcoming places
  • is considerate and holistic
  • is collaborative and inclusive
  • is key for positive environmental impact
  • means creative problem-solving

Inspiring the Learning Locally project: lessons from Armadale

At the end of October, our Senior Design Officer Laura Hainey visited Armadale in West Lothian to support the delivery of a workshop which would inform our project "Learning Locally: Co-designing Sustainable Learning Settings" through which we will work with a number of primary schools in the town to support the delivery of the "Learning for Sustainability Policy".

The workshop – a collaboration between West Lothian Council, the Dale Hub, Public Health Scotland and Architecture and Design Scotland – explored the Place Standard with a Climate Lens with 20 local residents.
